Codiac Regional RCMP’s long-delayed satellite office is expected to open this summer.
Work will begin shortly to renovate a space at 795 Main Street, next to Oak Lane, after the Codiac Regional Policing Authority awarded a contract to a Riverview company this week.
Avant Garde Construction was the lowest bidder at $663,000, a figure more than double what the CRPA originally anticipated.
Chairperson Don Moore said higher costs can be attributed to certain specifications which are needed for any RCMP location such as bulletproof doors.
The satellite office has faced many delays and was expected to open last year.
Superintendent Ben Jolette told Moncton City Council this week that he was anxious for the satellite office to open since the force is running out of space in Codiac RCMP headquarters at 520 Main Street.
The new location will house the community policing unit such as the foot and bicycle patrols.
