Codiac Regional RCMP are running out of space at their 520 Main Street headquarters and are looking forward to opening a satellite office later this year just a few blocks away.
Superintendent Ben Jolette told Moncton City Council that more details on construction will come from the Codiac Regional Policing Authority during a special meeting this week.
“There is going to be a determination of the way forward and then the renovations should start imminently. I believe we’ve put up signage saying opening in spring… summer.”
Jolette explained to council how space is limited right now.
“We have another office where two people were using the space and now four people are using it in the basement of the detachment. We were on the verge of putting people in sea cans (sea containers) in the parking lot.”
A new satellite office at 795 Main Street was expected to open last year but has been plagued by delays.
In addition, a new $56 million police station is now under construction on Albert Street which is scheduled to open in 2025.
