New Brunswickers will be paying more for electricity starting next month although it’s not clear yet how much.
In a partial decision on Thursday, the Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) said it is not satisfied that the rates, as NB Power applied for, are ‘just and reasonable’.
Last October, the Crown corporation filed an application with the EUB seeking an 8.9 percent rate hike.
Public intervener Rick Williams said the hike could ultimately be about half that amount.
NB Power spokesperson Dominique Couture released a statement to our newsroom on Friday afternoon.
“NB Power has received the partial rate decision from the Energy and Utilities Board on our General Rate Application. We plan to take time to review the ruling in full before responding to questions. We remain committed to providing safe and reliable electricity to New Brunswickers today and in the future,” noted Couture.
