Dangerously cold weather has descended upon our region and the City of Moncton says frontline agencies and community officers are urging anyone living rough to head to a shelter.
City spokesperson Isabelle LeBlanc says the City is working with community partners and the Department of Social Development to support expanded options for shelter.
“Effective yesterday, shelters have increased to safe maximum capacities to provide urgent safe and warm spaces for anyone in need,” notes LeBlanc.
There are are now four shelters throughout the city which are open 24/7:
- Out of the Cold (Humanity Project), 473 St. George Street (opened to accommodate weather-related situations)
- Mark Avenue Shelter, 55 Mark Avenue
- Harvest House Atlantic, 182 High Street
- House of Nazareth, 75 Albert Street
“Frontline agencies and our community officers will continue to encourage individuals sleeping rough to access one of the shelters,” she says.
LeBlanc added city crews will be constantly monitoring infrastructure and will be ready to respond to any break due to the extreme cold.
