The Town of Riverview is looking into on-demand transit service.
Saint John Transit now has two routes under its so-called Flex service and an on-demand pilot project has been underway in Dieppe.
Rather than covering a route where passengers are not waiting, buses will be sent to where and when a call for service is made.
Councillor Cecile Cassista believes the town could learn a lot from this idea.
“What is unique is the fact that you can book a ride whenever you need it and I think that’s very efficient and they are using small buses.”
CAO Colin Smith told Town Council that the east end could likely benefit more than the west end.
“The predominate use of the transit system in Riverview today is still the west. But on-demand maybe a more viable solution in the east as an example.”
Smith told Council that it is definitely an idea worth exploring.
