January is Crime Stoppers Awareness Month, spotlighting a community-focused organization which has helped solve thousands of crimes.
Founded in New Mexico, USA in 1976, Crime Stoppers arrived in New Brunswick in September 1985 and now has 13 chapters in the province.
Since then, almost 38,000 calls have been received and more $9.5 million worth of stolen property has been recovered.
Resources from the public, police and the media help make the organization a success – and of course those anonymous tips.
The Province of New Brunswick has formally declared January 2023 as Crime Stoppers month and Premier Blaine Higgs has endorsed the aims of the organization and the importance of its work.
Crime Stoppers is not run by the police and is separate from any law enforcement agency.
N.B. Crime Stoppers is a registered charity and is operated and managed by volunteers from the community.
Information about criminal activity can be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App, or by Secure Web Tips on their website.
