A developer wants to rezone a property at 84 MacAleese Lane in Moncton’s Ward One to build apartments.
A three-storey, 30-unit building is being proposed for the site near a former industrial area.
City planner Bill Budd unveiled the plans to councillors during Monday’s regular city council meeting.
An application was received from Rino Savoie, on behalf of Deborah Anne Magee, the landowner.
Councillor Shawn Crossman said he fully supports this project without question.
“Ward One will continue to grow and this is a great piece of land that has sit vacant for quite some time,” he noted.
Councillor Paulette Theriault was also fully supportive and made reference to city staff about the former industrial area.
“This will really help to enhance that area. And I know that you’re working hard on trying to eventually clean up that whole space. We’ve been talking about it for 15 years,” she added.
City council gave first reading to the property rezoning (Bylaw Z-222.9) and the matter will go before the Planning and Advisory Committee on January 25.
The city will be notifying property owners within 100 metres of the rezoning.
A public hearing has been scheduled for February 6.
