Codiac RCMP has reassured Moncton City Council that officers are on the ground in the downtown core and are visiting businesses nearly every day.
In his update at Monday’s regular council meeting, interim superintendent Ben Jolette said community policing officers have been going door to door along St. George Street and are talking to business owners and employees.
“They are asking ‘How’s it going? Are there any issues that you would like to report?’ Some people don’t think that they need to call us about specific things,” Jolette noted.
“We will ask, ‘Is anything going on here that we need to know about?’ They might say yes. So we may have new files to open and investigate.”
Jolette added public safety officers are also on the streets trying to combat the problem of open-air drug use.
Two new police officers will be joining Codiac RCMP early in the new year.
