The mayor of Riverview said social problems such as homelessness are the biggest challenges facing any municipality right now including his own.
In a year-end interview with 91.9 The Bend, Andrew LeBlanc said the town will be working in unison with Moncton and Dieppe on these issues.
“We might be experiencing it at different levels. We all have different capacity and how we can respond to the issue. But the one thing that is common is that we are all experiencing it,” noted LeBlanc.
At a recent news conference led by tourism and business groups, the tri-community mayors urged the province to act on combatting social problems like homelessness and affordable housing.
Meantime, a pilot project is now underway in the City of Moncton which will allow on-street parking overnights during the winter months except when storms are coming or when snow removal operations become necessary.
The Town of Riverview and the City of Dieppe still have blanket overnight parking bans from December to April.
Although the town is content with its current parking regulations, LeBlanc adds council will be watching Moncton’s pilot project.
“Of course, we’ll keep our ears to the ground on what happens in other municipalities. If there’s a model out there that is more successful than what we’re doing right now, we would certainly consider it.”
