A closure of the Magnetic Hill covered Bridge, isn’t slowing down traffic to the Wharf Village.
It opened for the season on Mother’s Day weekend.
Owner Jenna Cann says they’ve already seen many visitors, “We are welcoming people from Quebec, Ontario, Western Canada, so we’re very excited. We are very positive, and we think people are on the move and they are eager to be out and about. We do believe numbers, especially outside the province will definitely be up this year.”
Cann and her husband took over the Wharf Village five years ago and growth has been steady since then, even with the pandemic.
“We find this year is shaping up to be better than we have experienced in the past couple of years, so we’re very encouraged,” Cann added.
New additions this year will include remote control boats, “We have live music three times a night starting this week, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights. We have all of our gift shops open. We have Cafe ice cream, and we actually are bringing some remote control boats into our pond this year for families to enjoy. So we’re just so excited. We’re so thrilled to be open and excited to see everyone,” Cann expressed.
The bridge that provides access to all of the attractions on Magnetic Hill closed on June 9th for repairs. City of Moncton Spokesperson Isabelle Leblanc told us the bridge has weakened over the years after being struck by a few vehicles and has also deteriorated. A full analysis is being done to determine what other upgrades will need to be done to the structure in the future.
The bridge is expected to be closed for a couple of weeks, but a there is a detour in place giving access to all of the attractions.
