Officials say two fishermen were rescued by a ferry after their boat began taking on water and sank in the Bay of Fundy near Grand Manan.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) received a mayday call from a vessel in Whale Cove around noon Wednesday.
“They were indicating that their vessel was heavily listing, so they made the decision to abandon their vessel and get into a life raft,” said Lt.-Cmdr. Brian Owens with JRCC.
A Cormorant helicopter and a Hercules aircraft from CFB Greenwood in Nova Scotia were tasked to respond to the scene.
But Owens said the two men were rescued by the MV Grand Manan Adventure before the aircraft could even launch.
“They were able to pick up the two fishers to safety and then they transported them to Blacks Harbour,” he said.
Owens was unsure if the men suffered any injuries during their ordeal. He said the boat they were on, the Ross Pride, later sank.
