Preparations are underway onboard HMCS Montreal as the crew gets ready for a six-month deployment.
The ship’s company of nearly 240 will set sail on Wednesday for the Mediterranean and the Black Sea as part of a NATO training mission in Central and Eastern Europe.
This is HMCS Montreal’s first time joining “Operation Reassurance.”
The training mission is currently the country’s largest international military operation.
“HMCS Montreal will deploy with a CH-148 Cyclone helicopter from 12 Wing Shearwater, making it the seventh Cyclone to conduct flight operations as part of Op REASSURANCE,” the Royal Canadian Navy says in a news release.

The ship replaces HMCS Fredericton, which arrived back home on December 17th.
Families will not be allowed to gather on the pier due to COVID-19 restrictions, but they’ll wave goodbye as the frigate sails past the Halifax waterfront.
The ship will set sail at 10 a.m.
