New Brunswick Public Health confirmed one new COVID-19-related death on Wednesday.
An individual in the Saint John region aged 80 or over died as a result of the virus.
Active hospitalizations continued to track upwards as 94 people in New Brunswick hospitals are now positive for COVID-19. The province said 34 of these individuals were admitted for reasons other than COVID-19.
Of those in the hospital, 10 are in an intensive care unit, and there are four people on a ventilator.
Hospitalizations include 74 people who are over the age of 60 and one person who is 19 or younger.
Public Health says 73 per cent of those in the hospital are either unvaccinated, partially vaccinated, or it has been more than six months since their second dose.
There are 359 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed by PCR test results today, according to the province’s COVID-19 dashboard.
These include 122 cases in the Moncton region, 83 in the Saint John region, 49 in the Fredericton region, 22 in the Edmundston region, seven in the Campbellton region, 53 in the Bathurst region, and 23 in the Miramichi region.
Additionally, there were 688 new positive rapid (point-of-care) test results submitted.
The rate of new cases is 48.2 per 100,000 for the fully vaccinated, 22.6 per 100,000 for the partially vaccinated, and 45.5 per 100,000 for the unvaccinated.
Of those currently in hospital, the rate is 10.9 per 100,000 for the fully vaccinated, 1.7 per 100,000 for the partially vaccinated, and 25.3 per 100,000 for the unvaccinated.
Among those in the ICU, the rates are 0.6 per 100,000 for the fully vaccinated, 0 per 100,000 for the partially vaccinated, and 6.1 per 100,000 for the unvaccinated.
Since Monday, more than 23,100 appointments have been booked for booster doses of an mRNA vaccine.
As of today, 90.9 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers have received their first dose of a vaccine, 83.2 per cent have received their second dose, and 27.5 per cent have been given a booster dose.
