A popular donut shop in Moncton is expanding.
Halo Donuts will open a second on location in Northwest Moncton in January.
President Jacques Allain says it’ll be located on Mountain at Gorge Road, “We had a lot of people asking us for a second location. We think the north end is a bit underserved for the amount of population there, so it made sense to us.”
Halo Donuts opened its first location on St. George Street in Moncton in 2020, “We have been open for one year now. We opened in October last year. It has gone super well, better than expected.”
Allain says their new location will also include a new larger kitchen, which will allow them to expand their product line, “We needed more kitchen space, so this just made sense to us to have a big kitchen and have a second location at that site. This new kitchen will allow us to have more consistency and more availability and more product. We have raised donuts, yeast raised donuts and cake donuts. We are planning on introducing French crullers and cinnamon rolls. We do singles and boxes of half dozens, eight packs and full dozens. All of our boxes are tax free because they are bakery items. There’s an option for everyone there.”
The idea of Halo Donuts started for Allain a few years ago, “I went to a donut shop in Halifax three or four years ago and that was the moment I tasted and I told myself that it could definitely work in Moncton. I think it is the nostalgia of fresh handmade donuts. It really captures all age groups because millenials never really had a chance to taste a fresh handmade product like this. The older generations remember back in the day when the big donut chains made their donuts fresh everyday in stores. I decided to take the plunge after I got laid off during COVID and the rest is history.”
They currently have a team of nine employees, but Allain expects to add another five full time positions with the new location.
