Fire heavily damaged a home in the 400 block of Ammon Road, just outside Moncton city limits, early Wednesday afternoon.
Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Brian McDonald says crews arrived during the noon hour and found heavy smoke coming from the house with heavy fire in the rear and on the deck.
MacDonald says no one was home at the time and it took about an hour to put out the flames.
Dieppe Fire provided mutual aid and since there are no fire hydrants nearby, water had to be trucked in.
MacDonald says a dog was heard barking in the garage and a neighbour had to break-in to rescue the animal.
Fire investigators are trying to determine a cause.
