As part of its efforts to replace parts of its current fleet, Codiac Transpo has received four new buses.
These additions are a result of the previously announced Building Canada Infrastructure that see’s the bill paid collaboratively.
The $2.2 million investment will see 50% of its costs covered by the federal government, 33% of the costs covered by the provincial government and the municipality will foot the remaining 17%.
The highlights of these buses include:
- In addition to the bike racks mounted on the front and free Wi-Fi on-board, the new buses have USB power outlets located on seatbacks of six seats for passenger convenience;
- An enlarged driver window;
- Electric engine cooling system to improve fuel economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions;
- Large passenger windows;
- Passenger seat modules specifically engineered for cleanability and disinfecting;
- Two wheelchair positions, accessible ramp, and kneeling feature;
- Diesel-powered and meets current Environmental Protection Agency emission standards;
- Roof-mounted HVAC system;
- Touch strips, pushbuttons, and pull cords are available to ring the bell at stops.
While the new buses will not add to the active number of buses in the fleet, they will replace current models that have racked up four million kilometres.
Regulatory inspections and minor operations will be conducted on the new models before they hit the streets in the next couple of weeks.
