The transit system serving the tri-communities is making some changes given high demand on certain routes and lower demand on others.
Codiac Transpo says the route changes will begin Sunday, March 14 as follows:
- Route 63 (Lewisville) – There will be slight changes in this route on the reverse direction to improve safety and reduce the number of left turns required. No bus stops will be removed, but bus stops will all be across the street from existing stops if the bus is travelling in the opposite direction.
- Route 68 (Salisbury) – This route will no longer travel along Chapman Street. The route will run directly from Salisbury Road to the Avenir Centre, along Main Street only. The following bus stops will be out of service: Lorentz/Falkland, Falkland/Mount Royal, and all stops along Chapman with even civic addresses.
- Route 70 (Mapleton) and Route 71 (Coliseum) – These routes will no longer exist and will be merged to the new 50 (Red Line). Until March 14, the service at the bus stops for the 70/71 routes is each hour. However, the bus from these routes will become a bus on the 50 Red Line which will allow most of the bus stops on the former 70/71 route to be serviced every 30 minutes during their service hours.
- Route 50 (Red Line) – This route will be merging routes 70 and 71. Additional bus stops will be added along the route and the existing service level of Route 50 (Red Line) will not be impacted.
Codiac Transpo says these changes will be reassessed in July as it continually assesses routes and rider demand.
Service levels remain at 70 percent in light of COVID-19.
