Disappointing, but not surprising, that’s how the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton describes a projected deficit in the Liberal government’s first budget.
Finance Minister Rene Legacy delivered the 2025-2026 spending plan on Tuesday with a projected deficit for the year of $549 million. The government is also forecasting red ink in all four years of its mandate.
“We appreciate the government is facing some significant new challenges and uncertainty,” says Kim Wilson, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton.
It says the government has delivered a dose of fiscal reality to businesses and residents..
The Chamber adds there are also some bright spots with money for healthcare, housing and a tariff response plan.
