A New Brunswick animal rescue is closing its doors.
The Founder of Kent County Animal Rescue says it all started around 18 years ago, with an injured kitten.
“I decided to just create a group on Facebook and see how it could help these animals,” Nicole Thebeau says.
It has grown from there, and Thebeau has helped so many cats, dogs and other animals, that she has lost count.
“Most of my rescues are badly injured, and we all know vet fees aren’t cheap. I’ve depended mostly on supporters to help me with the Vet bills. And then we depend on fosters because we don’t have a shelter either. I can’t say enough about all my supporters throughout these years, my fosters and all of these people. Without them, this would have never been possible”
Thebeau says she is 55 now, and her parents are getting older, so she needs to dedicate more time to her family.
“People don’t realize the work behind the scenes, taking care of all these animals and the drama and everything else. By the time I’m done my day, I’m really tired, and I cannot help my parents the way I would like. It has been a hard decision. I mean, my heart will always be doing animal rescues, but right now I have to take care of my family.”
She is hoping to have the cat and dog intakes and rehoming services all closed by June, and she’ll begin to respond only on an emergency basis.
“I know in my heart that if I get a call for an emergency rescue, on a personal level, I’ll probably still end up responding,” Thebeau says.
