RCMP officers in New Brunswick are expected to begin using bodycams sometime within the next year.
Codiac RCMP Superintendent Benoit Jolette told Moncton City Council this week that a supplier was chosen and the units ordered.
“They’re going to be deployed in various locations. We haven’t had our exact date when they’re going to be sent here, but it’s within the next year. Hopefully sooner than later. The plan is that every member will be issued their own.”
He expects it will be a game changer for every member of the force, “For so many different reasons, evidentiary reasons and for the type of interactions that we have with the public on both sides of the spectrum,” Jolette added.
