RCMP has arrested eight people in connection with vehicle thefts in the area.
Superintendent Benoit Jolette provided details during a monthly update to Moncton City Council.
He says on August 8, officers received reports of an impaired driver in Dieppe, but that led them to something even bigger, “After a speedy patrol, the members located the vehicle, which was stolen and several individuals were taken into custody.”
The following day, on August 9, during a coordinated effort between patrol and the crime reduction and criminal intelligence units, eight people were arrested, including three adults and five youths.
“Four stolen vehicles were located and recovered. Through information from our analysts, we confirmed that this group had been the primary drivers of vehicle thefts this summer,” Jolette says.
He adds the same group was also involved in other vehicle thefts and violent offences earlier this year in Moncton and surrounding areas.
Some of the individuals remained in custody while others were released on conditions.
