Salisbury Regional School is denouncing an act of “racism, hatred and bullying” on its playground.
Principal Tammy Constantine made families aware of Tuesday night’s “serious incident” in an email.
“This incident involved a young middle-level student with language directed at him, that I will not repeat,” Constantine wrote in the email.
Constantine said their top priority is the well-being of the student and his family “who had to endure this and live with this hatred.”
The principal went on to say that she is addressing the incident “with the seriousness it deserves,” adding that parents are being contacted and security footage is being reviewed.
“This type of behavior is entirely unacceptable and goes against the core values of our school community, which are rooted in respect, diversity, and inclusion.”
Constantine encouraged families to speak with their children about the importance of diversity, empathy and standing up against racism.
“We believe at Salisbury Regional it is essential to involve the entire school community in fostering a culture of respect and understanding.”
