Upgrades will be done in Highland Park in Salisbury thanks to joint funding from three levels of government.
Those improvements include:
- A new amphitheatre for year-round events. It will include a commemorative plaque paying tribute to the community anniversary (in English, French, and Mi’kmaq), accessible seating areas and ramp access to the stage, and a heated storage building
- The installation of a public art mural designed by local artists will pay tribute to the region’s natural and ecological history. It will feature seven species of plants and seven species of birds, paying tribute to the Indigenous principle of planning for seven generations
- The installation of underground electrical bollards at the upper level of the park, will increase the Town’s ability to both enhance existing year-round events and introduce new offerings
- The acquisition of over 1.5 acres of land will nearly double the upper level of Highland Park
- The installation of 3D signage
The total investment from the federal, provincial and municipal levels is over $985 thousand.
Work on the amphitheatre is expected to begin July 2nd and be completed by the fall.
The Town of Salisbury is celebrating the 250th anniversary of permanent settlement in the region.
“This investment by all levels of government demonstrates a recognition of the Town’s ability to host community events, welcome visitors, and provide a community where everyone feels at home. We look forward to utilizing the community assets and utilizing the Salisbury 250 milestone as a way to ensure these projects are completed for our community,” Mayor Robert Campbell says.
