An updated newcomers guide has been launched for the Greater Moncton region.
Considered a go-to online guide for all things Moncton, Riverview and Dieppe, it is designed specifically for newcomers and international students.
Officials say the guide offers access to important telephone numbers and information for newcomers looking for answers about settlement agencies, government services, housing, communications services, money and banking, health and safety, and education.
It also includes detailed sections on transportation and finding employment, as well as an overview of Canadian tax laws.
“Our region has seen record immigration in the past two years, newcomers have been, and continue to be, a vital part of Greater Moncton’s growth story and it is important to continue prioritizing their integration and belonging in our community,” said Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold.
Dieppe Mayor Yvon Lapierre said the guide is important for our region, which attracted 67 per cent of all French-speaking permanent resident admissions to the province since 2021.
“The Newcomer Guide is offered in both official languages, a testament to our unique positioning allowing us to attract francophone newcomers,” said Lapierre.
Officials noted the region is seeing more individuals and families staying in the region long-term.
“Overall, immigrant retention rates in the Moncton Census Metropolitan Area have been improving in recent years relative to the national average,” said Riverview Mayor Andrew LeBlanc.
“This speaks to our quality of life, strong programming, opportunities for work and play, and ability to integrate newcomers into the social fabric.”
