The wait is over for Cap-Acadie residents.
The new Kouchibouguac River Bridge Number 1 on Route 133 is finally open to traffic.
It replaces the previous bridge that was damaged in 2019 during Hurricane Dorian.
The storm caused concrete to fall from the underside of the deck, impacting the strength of the bridge that was originally built in 1963.
A modular bridge was put in place in March 2020 to maintain traffic flow, and construction of the new bridge began in 2022.
It was also built to a higher elevation to minimize the effects of climate change.
