Dieppe City Council has adopted an affordable housing incentive policy.
In an effort to help find a solution to an ongoing crisis, Dieppe has made $250,000 in grants available for developers.
The housing policy uses the same criteria as provincial and federal programs and to qualify at least 30 percent of new rental units must be affordable.
The policy is retroactive to January 1, 2023 and only applies to new housing units as renovation or conversion projects are not eligible.
“This policy was designed to be fast and effective. It allows the City of Dieppe to contribute to solutions for more affordable housing options,” says Charles-Éric Landry, a City of Dieppe urban planner.
A study of Dieppe’s housing needs has also been launched and will lead to developing a housing strategy to improve the current policy and implement targeted measures.
In a statement, officials say a strategy will enable the City of Dieppe to continue densifying its downtown core, develop its cultural life and become the destination of choice for French-speaking immigrants to the Atlantic region.
To apply for a grant, applicants must contact the Dieppe Planning and Development Department before the end of construction.
