The Town of Riverview is adopting a pilot project next winter which will eliminate its blanket overnight parking ban.
An alert system will be adopted from December 1 until March 31 from midnight to 7 a.m. when snow removal or salting operations are necessary.
Public Works director Michel Ouellet said planning is underway on how residents will be notified which could include text messaging.
“We’re targeting a group that would have phones and are technically savvy to that degree. On top of that, there could be radio announcements, there would be Facebook announcements and we have our webpage.”
The City of Moncton adopted a similar pilot project last winter.
Based on their experience, Ouellet expects more parking tickets will probably be issued next winter.
Ouellet said the onus will be on residents to get informed.
“It’s up to the residents to join the alert system and we’re going to do our best to communicate this out.”
