A developer wants to rezone land at 1383 Ryan Street (at the corner of Augusta Terrace) in Moncton to build a four-storey, 52-unit apartment building.
Avant Garde Construction and Management Inc., on behalf of the landowner, Alkarain Investment Corporation, is the applicant.
The rezoning came before Moncton City Council for first reading last week.
Moncton Ward 3 councillor Bryan Butler had concerns about traffic especially with Northrup Frye School across the street.
“There are a lot of kids that cross the street from that area to go to that school. So I will certainly be up around there looking,” Butler noted.
“I know with the traffic in the morning when kids are being dropped off, there are going to be more people especially with a building that height. There is certainly going to be an impact on the traffic.”
City council gave the rezoning first reading and the matter will now head to the Planning Advisory Committee for input on June 28.
A public hearing has been scheduled for July 17 at 4 p.m. at city hall.
