Residents of Dieppe will have a chance to have their say in an upcoming public consultation on transit service in the city.
A plan aims to double the number of bus routes in Dieppe from three to six – in phases – along with increasing bus frequency to every 15 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes the rest of the time.
Given Dieppe’s strong population growth and a record year for real estate construction, city officials say it’s important to address transportation needs now in order to support current growth and plan for the future.
“By optimizing transit service, we aim to provide residents with an affordable and reliable alternative to automobiles for their travel needs, which fits with our ‘one home, one car’ vision,” said urban mobility director Jérémie Aubé.
The city says the number of cars on roads could be reduced which would have an impact on traffic along with road maintenance and quality.
Meantime, the on-demand transit pilot project which lasted two years has been deemed a success according to a statistical analysis.
The service is still available but its place in the network will be studied further.
