Mounties believe alcohol was a contributing factor in a three-vehicle collision near Grand-Barachois which claimed the life of a woman on Saturday morning.
Shediac RCMP were called to the collision around 6 a.m. between a pickup truck and two cars on Highway 15.
The driver and sole occupant of the first car, a 60-year-old woman from Grand-Barachois, died at the scene from her injuries.
There were four individuals in the other two vehicles who suffered minor injuries.
Police believe the crash occurred when the eastbound pickup truck lost control, crossed the centre line and collided with a westbound car.
A third vehicle, also a car travelling westbound, collided with the two other vehicles.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 27-year-old man from Grand-Digue, was arrested at the scene.
He was later released and is scheduled to appear in court on May 26.
Members of the Beaubassin-East Fire Department, Cap-Pelé Fire Department, Department of Public Safety, Ambulance New Brunswick and an RCMP Collision Reconstructionist also attended the scene.
A member of the New Brunswick coroner’s office is assisting in the investigation.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the woman’s exact cause of death.
