A second office for Codiac RCMP in downtown Moncton has faced a number of delays but construction is expected to start in a few weeks.
Codiac Regional Policing Authority chair Don Moore said the availability of the resources to bid on the work has been a problem.
“We’re now in a situation in which the bids are higher, have a higher projected cost than we had originally planned for, and we’re trying to figure out what to do with respect to that.”
Moore mentioned that the RCMP require certain specifications for any of their locations.
“Certain types of doors are needed – bulletproof and so on. It has to have separate duct work and it has to have separate electrical work so that it can be a secure facility for our police service.”
Moore noted how the community policing unit will be housed in the new office and possibly another unit as well.
Located at 795 Main Street next to Oak Lane, the new location was originally planned for last summer but Moore now expects the office will open later this summer.
