A Fredericton man is facing charges after an alleged carjacking, two robberies and a police chase on Wednesday.
RCMP said a chain of incidents started in Fredericton where a man commandeered a utility van after a robbery and then fled in the vehicle to Minto where another business was robbed.
En route to Minto on Route 10, police learned the driver of the van had forced another vehicle off the road.
Corporal Hans Ouellette said Fredericton Police had alerted the RCMP and the van was located in Minto but it fled the community.
With lights and sirens activated, Ouellette said police chased the van as it headed to the Trans-Canada Highway.
“Police were then able to use a tire deflation device near Salisbury and it was successful in stopping the fleeing vehicle,” he noted.
Daniel Andrew Murphy, 38, appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court by way of tele-remand on Thursday and was charged with robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police and resisting arrest.
He remains in custody and will be back in court for a bail hearing on Monday.
