A 46-year-old man from Elsipogtog First Nation has been charged with second degree murder following the homicide of a 36-year-old man.
Last Friday around 6 a.m., Elsipogtog and Richibucto RCMP members were called to an altercation at a home on Oak Street in Elsipogtog First Nation where a man was found suffering from stab wounds.
RCMP say the man died at the scene of his injuries and he was later identified as 36-year-old Alexander Matthew Peters from Elsipogtog First Nation.
Later the same day, police arrested a 46-year-old man in the community and seized a weapon.
Through the investigation, police determined the death was a homicide.
Nibogtoog Leonard Francis from Elsipogtog First Nation was charged on Saturday via tele-remand and is being held in custody until his next court date on November 8.
Mounties would like to speak to anyone in the Oak Street and Graham Road area in Elsipogtog First Nation who may have video surveillance or dash cam footage or anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious between midnight and 9 a.m. on October 7.
