Area residents have been flocking to the local pools to keep cool, as this heat wave continues.
Centennial Pool saw around 800 people on Thursday alone, at various times throughout the day.
The East End pool had almost 200 visitors who chose the beat the heat, if even for a couple of hours.
Spokesperson Jocelyn Keech said the East End Pool has been equally as busy, adding “Centennial is always a bit more popular, but I think it probably just sheer size. The East End is a great pool and we see a lot of people go there during the day, especially those with smaller kids. It’s easier to keep track of them.”
The two pools offer public, lap, parent and tot and senior swims throughout the week.
“This year we’re also offering swimming lessons for the first time in a long time. There are two sessions running throughout the summer. The first one is already underway, but we have another one coming up at East End pool starting on August 9th, and it runs for two weeks. It is an hour per day for two weeks, four days each week. Swimming lessons are in high demand,” Keech says.
We will be offering Lifesaving Society Swim For Life Swimmer 1-6 lessons at Centennial Park Pool and East End Pool this summer. 🏊♀️
Register in-person at Centennial Park Pool during regular operating hours for swimming lessons at either pool.

With Environment Canada forecasting highs of 31, and a humidex making it feel like 40 degrees, both pools are expected to be very busy this weekend.
Keech mentioned this is the first summer in a couple of years where they are not under COVID-19 restrictions, and the crowds have definitely returned.
If you’re trying to decide the best time of day for a visit, Keech recommended, “The busiest times for both pools is noon to 2:30pm, but we have seen a big increase in people coming after work as well. They pop in to cool off, maybe after supper.”
