The Saint John Sea Dogs are heading to the Memorial Cup final.
Saint John came back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat the QMJHL champion Shawinigan Cataractes 5-3 in the final round robin game of the tournament.
Gardiner MacDougall, interim head coach of the Sea Dogs, says the key to Saturday night’s success was “Lady ‘Mo.”
“Miss Lady Momentum, sometimes she’s hard to find, you don’t know how long she’s going to stay with you. We’re lucky tonight that we found her and she stayed with us for a while and full credit to the crowd for introducing ‘Mo to our team and using her to find a way to get a positive result,” MacDougall told reporters after the game.
William Dufour had four goals for the Sea Dogs. On his third, several hats hit the ice.
Jérémie Poirier has the game-winning goal for the Sea Dogs in front of a sold-out crowd at TD Station.
Dufour said he is looking forward to playing in the final on Wednesday.
“To finish my career like that is just unbelievable. We have one more to go and we’re gonna go for it,” he said.
Saint John will face the winner of Monday’s semi-final between Shawinigan and the Ontario champion Hamilton Bulldogs.
