In clear conditions, you can see several meteor showers a year.
But, there’s some uncertainty surrounding one for tonight, but if it does happen, the Backyard Astronomer says it will be a spectacular sight.
“It is not like the regular meteor shower every year, like we have the Perseids. It is called the Tau Herculids and it’s really from a Comet that broke apart in 1995. It is suspected, it might be going through this cloud of debris of these particles that have broken up. It could produce over a thousand meteors an hour or it could produce zero.” Gary Boyle told us.
Projections on its sustainability are only around a half hour to an hour, “They are only projections because this cloud of debris from the comet is moving through space, and its orbits are being changed by the other planets. So, it is not a sure thing. If it does happen, it won’t be an all night event, but it will really be something to see.”
The Tau Heculids may be visible with a clear sky at around 11pm Eastern Time.
