A home has been destroyed after a fire in Moncton on Monday afternoon.
Moncton Fire Acting Platoon Chief Tim Rossiter says when they arrived on Carsdale Court at around 3:30pm, the left side of the two storey duplex was fully engulfed and two cars were also on fire.
Twenty firefighters were on scene along with other emergency responders including RCMP and Ambulance New Brunswick.
Three adults and three children from both sides of the duplex managed to get out safely, but two cats are still unaccounted for.
“A reminder from the Moncton Fire Department. In the event of a fire, you should get out, and stay out,” Rossiter stressed.
Rossiter says neighbours may have heard explosions during the fire, but it’s believed that may have been the tires on the burning vehicles, “They can make a very loud noise when they pop.”
The siding on a neighbouring home was also damaged due to the heat of the flames.
Rossiter adds that all fires are dangerous, but there was an additional challenge for firefighters due to dangling live electrical wires that were originally connected to the side of the home, while they awaited the arrival of NB Power.
“The left side of the duplex is totally destroyed. It is still standing , but all that’s left is the shell,” explained Rossiter.
An investigation is underway to determine a cause.
