The transition committee overseeing the amalgamation of the Beaubassin-est Rural Community and the Village of Cap-Pelé have come up with a new name.
Cap-Acadie is the name being proposed for the merger which is currently known as Entity 38.
The amalgamation of communities is part of the Higgs government’s sweeping local governance reforms across the province.
Transition committee members chose the name after asking students from three area schools and received 48 submissions which were shortlisted for a final vote.
The committee is also suggesting the Regional Town of Cap-Acadie – with over 9,000 residents – should have a mayor and eight councillors who are voted at large.
The committee adds their work has been progressing well so far.
Municipal elections for newly amalgamated communities will be held on November 28th and the new councils are expected to take office in January.
