It was no April Fools’ joke when Vince Catton found out he and his friend, Robin Lawrence, won a Maxmillions prize.
The pair from Saint John claimed $1 million after the Atlantic Lottery Corporation’s Lotto Max draw on April 1. The winning ticket was sold at Little John’s Variety on Saint John’s east side.
“I called Robin and told him we won but I didn’t know how much, so I’d check the winning numbers while I had him on the phone,” said Catton in a press release.
“When I saw all the matching numbers I said, ‘Robin, you’re not going to believe this. You better get over here right now.’”
Catton and Lawrence became friends about a year ago and have been playing the lottery together ever since.
They plan to split the winnings, each getting $500,000.
Catton, who retired several months ago, said he plans to spoil his loved ones and pave his driveway with his chunk of the winnings, while Lawrence says he wants to pay off some debt and take an extended summer vacation.
The pair also purchased new Nissan cars for their spouses, who are coincidentally named Kelly
and Kelli.
