Family and friends of a Moncton woman who recently died of breast cancer have established a bursary in her name.
Gini Bourque was an inspiration to many in the community after she became an avid cyclist and raised over $50,000 for The Moncton Hospital’s Dr. Sheldon H. Rubin Oncology Clinic.

Diana Bourque, Gini’s sister, wants people to remember her determination and positive outlook when faced with challenges.
“She continued to ride her bike and raise money for N.B. Doctors Cycling Against Cancer even when going through treatments herself. So she really made people realize they could do more than they thought they could.”
Diana says Gini referred to her illness as her B.C. (Breast Cancer) Project.
“She organized it and managed it as she would as a project manager – which she was. So she just took each step along the way and she mitigated any issues that might happen.”
Diana adds that Gini didn’t lose her battle with cancer but instead her project ended.
Gini Bourque was 49 years old when she died on April 12.
Thanks to a recent fundraiser, Diana says three $1,000 bursaries will be given to high school graduates, entering university this fall, who have given back to their community.
