2021 was a challenging year for fundraising but the United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick has reached its goal.
Just over $2.2 million was raised in its annual campaign which is actually slightly higher than their target.
Officials say creative fundraising became a necessity and the community stepped up in very big ways.
“We’re grateful to live in a community that truly cares about helping one another; and to work with a group of tireless supporters. When we launched our campaign, we made a call to increase our local love for this region we call home. For our communities facing issues like mental health, food insecurity, poverty, social isolation, and homelessness – issues worsened by the continued pandemic,” said campaign chair Philip Sallaj.
“The community heard our call and stepped up in very big ways. It’s inspiring. It’s local love at its best.”
Funding will be provided to 22 programs delivered through 21 agencies in the region including boys and girls clubs, various social services organizations and domestic violence shelters.
The United Way annual fundraising campaign, which runs primarily from September through December, raises money mainly through workplace payroll deduction programs, as well as through individual and corporate contributions and special events.
All funds contributed to the United Way Community Fund are invested locally in Southeastern New Brunswick.
