Thousands of registered nurses and nurse practitioners in New Brunswick could be headed for a strike vote.
The New Brunswick Nurses Union (NBNU) said Wednesday that the members rejected a second tentative collective agreement in two months.
President Paula Doucet said they could not support a contract that offered no major immediate relief for “unsustainable expectations” that have been placed on them.
“New Brunswick’s registered nurses and nurse practitioners are crying out for help over the broken healthcare system in our province,” Doucet said in a statement.
“The status quo is not working, and they need New Brunswick’s help before the healthcare system crumbles completely.”
The RNs and nurse practitioners work in hospitals, public and mental health, and extra mural.
NBNU said its next step is to ask for an impasse to be declared and a strike vote to be taken.
