A woman who appealed her first degree murder conviction in the horrific killing of a Riverview man has now entered a guilty plea to a lesser charge.
Lawyer Gilles Lemieux confirmed to our newsroom that Marissa Shephard appeared in a Moncton courtroom on Tuesday morning and pleaded guilty to manslaughter and arson. First degree murder charges were withdrawn by the Judge.
Twenty-five-year-old Shephard was set to stand trial again in August for first degree murder in the brutal killing of 18-year-old Baylee Wylie.
Wylie was stabbed numerous times and beaten, then his body burned in a Sumac Street townhouse in December of 2015.
Two others are also serving time in connection with Wylie’s death.
Devin Morningstar was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced life in prison, with no chance of parole for 25 years.
Tyler Noel pleaded guilty to second degree murder and is also serving life in prison with no chance of parole for 16 years.
Shephard will appear in court for victim impact statements and a pre-sentencing report on August 19th.
