The federal government is providing more than $230,000 for renovations at the Aberdeen Cultural Centre and to support its programming.
Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe MP Ginette Petitpas-Taylor made the announcement during a virtual news conference today.
Out of the total, $132,000 will be used for upgrades including replacing 40 windows and new flooring for Bernard LeBlanc Hall (multipurpose room) while purchases will include a retractable movie screen and a sound mixing console.
In addition, $53,000 will help support artistic programming such as dance, music, theatre, poetry, comedy and visual arts.
Finally, more than $46,000 is being earmarked for Festival Acadie Rock which will mark its 10th edition in August.
Executive director René Légère describes this pandemic year as catastrophic but he adds the centre always had some activity.
“We haven’t had any shows in our theatre since March 2020 but the theatre was always occupied by people who were working on projects for television,” he notes.
Légère expects the Aberdeen Cultural Centre will begin reopening in July for the production of theatre, music and dance.
