The House of Nazareth homeless shelter on Albert Street, has elected a new Board.
It has 11 members, with representatives from each of the tri-communities. Eight them are new to the Board.
Newly elected member Robert Goguen says there is much work to be done including ensuring transparency, “We have to make sure that we account for all of the monies and have the proper financial returns, which is being completed. We have to make sure the the organization is streamlined from the point of view of decisions and that spending is very carefully matched. Then try and come with sort sort of delivery model that is suited towards the community as well.”
Goguen says it is going to take a lot of thought, “We are going to have to work with a lot more of the community organizations because that is certainly a strength within Moncton. Many hands make light work. No one has the market cornered on good ideas and we have to have an open mind on what will be the best solution.”
Those ideas include enhanced security surrounding the facility, because Goguen says you can’t let people just wander around, making area residents feel unsafe.
Zineb Elouad was named interim Executive Director, replacing Jean Dube who resigned in January.
Goguen says the new Board will meet for the first time on Monday night.
The 105 bed shelter opened in Moncton in 2019.
