The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton has described 2020 as a challenging, costly and exhausting year from a business perspective.
The CCGM held its annual general meeting virtually on Thursday via the videoconferencing service Zoom.
CEO John Wishart praised his team at the chamber and said the organization has been placing a focus on communication and advocacy.
“We worked the phones, e-mailed and twisted the arms of politicians to squeeze more support for our hardest hit sectors,” he said.
The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton lost only six of its 800 members last year which was one percent of the total and considerably less than other chambers across Canada.
While Wishart acknowledged business casualties due to COVID-19 just as there has been personal loss, he thinks the community is emerging more resilient than ever from the pandemic.
Wishart added that Greater Moncton was the economic engine of New Brunswick prior to the pandemic and he said there is every reason to believe that leadership will continue in the years ahead.
