Mini-golf enthusiasts will soon have a new course to check out in southern New Brunswick.
The Sussex Adventure Mini-Golf Course is set to open next to The Mule Bar and Grill on Winter Street in the coming weeks.
Dan Mazerolle, who owns the restaurant, said he had been trying to find a purpose for the vacant lot for some time.
“It just came to me about a year ago now the idea of that would be a nice spot for mini-golf,” Mazerolle said in a phone interview.
“Since we’re so central to Moncton, Fredericton and Saint John and I noticed that the restaurant does a lot of tourist business coming through, I thought this would be a great way of bringing more people in to the town.”
But this will not be just your basic mini-golf course, said Mazerolle. For starters, he believes it will be the first in New Brunswick to incorporate LED lighting, which will allow for night golf.
In addition, every hole on the course will tell a story about something to do with the Sussex area, he said, from covered bridges to the “Bluff” hiking trail.
“Every hole has a challenge to an adult, so there’s a sweet spot in each hole that you’re going to try to get every time you play that’s going to be very difficult to get,” said Mazerolle, “but at the same time, you can have a three-, four- or five-year-old beside you just putting the ball along and getting to the hole.”
Mazerolle said his goal is to have the 18-hole mini-golf course open by late May or early June.
He plans to hire at least five employees for the golf course, which will also have an ice cream stand and snack bar.
“We’re going to give something else for people of Sussex to do,” said Mazerolle.
Was an early morning and a long day…but all 18 holes had the cement pads poured today!Another big step forward!
