If you’re a golfer, and looking for a tee time, it’s advised you consider booking several days in advance.
The few golf courses in the region that have opened for the season are already very busy.
Manager of Country Meadows on Indian Mountain Leanne Richardson says with the pandemic members are thrilled be getting out again, “The members have said that it is great to be back because this is all they could do last summer. They didn’t do anything all winter, especially people who are retired, because they were limited with what they could do. ‘
Richardson says they got an earlier start this season because of the weather, “It does get very busy usually when we first open, because people are anxious to get going, but also because there aren’t as many golf courses open, so we do deal with some bigger crowds. Last year was very busy. We got started as soon as we were able to get started and we were very busy for the first few weeks. It stayed very busy throughout the season, under the limitations on what people could do. We are anticipating similar this year, but we have had more rain this spring since we opened.”
All of the tee times have to be booked online or over the phone because of the pandemic, and there are other little reminders for those heading out onto the course, “We have to advise people for example, not to take the flags out, because they are a high touch point because everyone is using them. So they putt the ball in the hole and go. Things like ball washers on golf courses haven’t been out for over in a year. They used to be out at each tee,” Richardson says.
She adds, they’ve also seen quite a few new people taking up the sport, “Last year, there were quite a few new people. It was one of the few places they felt comfortable during the pandemic. On the golf course, with the open space.”
