An initiative that runs internationally is being revived in Greater Moncton.
One Hundred Women Who Care is currently looking for new members for its upcoming meeting in May.
Spokesperson Jo-Anne Phillips says each member donates $100 four times a year that will go to chosen non-profit organizations, “Inviting the members to nominate not for profit registered groups in our areas that could be considered for our sponsorship and donation.”
Twelve non profit organizations benefit annually through donations. Three groups are chosen randomly each quarter.
Phillips says, “We were introduced to some groups that we weren’t even aware of, who are doing some very needed work in our community. I believe it keeps us that much closer. With the pandemic, I think it is great timing for this organization to step up and continue the good work.”
The top group receives 80 per cent of the funds, and the other groups split the remainder.
Phillips says, “When we look at the impact that coming together as a group of 100 women, rather than if I donate my 50 dollars one week, and 25 the next, if we have the impact of 100 plus women, that impact to the organization is exponential.”
As of Monday, 93 women had already committed to 100 Women Who Care Greater Moncton.
An introductory online meeting is planned for tonight at 7pm.
