A webcam has been installed by the City of Moncton in advance of the closure of the Causeway next week.
City of Moncton Spokesperson Austin Henderson says knowing there will likely be increased traffic, the webcam will allow motorists to see the vehicles in real time.
“Knowing that there will be unexpected amounts of traffic crossing that Bridge when the Causeway is closed. The Webcam is at the intersection of Assomption and Vaughn Harvey facing the Bridge. So people can see what the traffic numbers are throughout the day using the webcam.”
He says currently around 21,000 vehicles cross the Gunningsville Bridge, “As of April 5th, there will be about 25, 000 more cars using the Gunningsville Bridge because the Causeway will be closed.”
Henderson says motorists can expect delays.
The Town of Riverview is also installing a webcam, that is expected to be operating in the coming days.
“We will be monitoring as much as we can to see if there are other options, but for now, that is what we know in terms of impact,” Henderson says.
